We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all parents and children to Year 1. We hope your child's time in year 1 will be happy and productive.
Moving from one setting to another can be an anxious time for you and your child. We aim to make the transition from their familiar Early Years experience to the Year 1 classes as smooth and enjoyable as we can. If there are any concerns please do not hesitate to drop in and have a word.
The classroom is a bright, learning environment for the children. There are areas of provision that are available to the children throughout the day. These include things like a writing area , a maths area, play-dough, painting, make and do, small world, computer area, construction and a listening area. We teach English and Maths and at these times the children are encouraged to sit on the carpet for longer periods and to listen attentively. After the teaching input children are then split; some will go to work in the continuous provision whilst others will work with a teacher or teaching assistant.
We will hear your child read at least once a week. We encourage you to read with your child each day and discuss what they read. This really does pay dividends and shows the children how much you value their reading.
We ask that parents continue to pay the £1.50 school fund money. This will include the money for their toast each day. The remainder is used to purchase resources for the creative parts of the curriculum that need to be continually restocked.
So far the children have enjoyed their time in the new classroom.

We would also ask parents to ensure:
- Names are on all items of clothing
- Your child has a water bottle with them each day
- A pair of 'wellies' in school, where possible
